Got your attention, didn’t I? It got mine, too.
Last night I was randomly scrolling through the TV guide when I saw that a program called “Paralyzed and Pregnant” was about to start on the Discovery Health Channel.
The show was about Michelle Carston, a quadriplegic woman who gave birth to (and is now raising) a son with her husband. It was crazy. The pregnancy had some crazy impact on her blood pressure that made her pass out when vertical, so she was on bed rest for 8+ months! When she did get out of bed, her wheelchair was set up like a recliner. They planned an induction with an epidural because her body overreacts to pain, and labor pains could end up causing her heart to stop. It was all kinds of mind-blowing. I saw most of the program, but I had to stop when Matt came in to give me an early birthday gift. Thanks to the magic of DVR, I’ll be able to finish the program tonight.Â
So I pretty much haven’t been able to think about anything else today. A little internet surfing told me that she and the baby are fine, but I need to see it with my own eyes. Now I want to say something pithy about courage and human nature, but as usual, pithiness escapes me.
